The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it has finalized the scope of various projects aimed at securing the basic technologies enabling autonomous vehicles to operate in the air, on land and at sea.
"(The government) will make efforts to go beyond the limits of unmanned vehicle marketing and support the creation of core technologies that can impact the market in general," said Ko Seo-gon, responsible from the project to the ministry.
Of this total budget, W 1.1 billion is devoted to the development of critical technologies needed for all unmanned vehicles, and another 800 million to be used in areas such as artificial intelligence that could be applied to vehicles, said officials.
The ministry said that 4 billion won would be spent on creating traffic management of unmanned aircraft systems, a method of managing drone traffic.
The system is not only essential for the safe and effective use of unmanned UAVs flying at low altitude, but will open new avenues for urban air mobility logistics, officials said.
