Korle Bu maternity fire reports fake – Management

The management of Korle Bu University Hospital in Accra says that it is not true that the maternity block of the hospital was destroyed by fire.

The clarification follows a viral video circulating on social media around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

The video minute, shared by a Maxwell Akpabli, showed nurses in the hospital’s maternity ward, attempting to evacuate newborns from a room that was reportedly on fire.

In the video commentary, the male voice alleged that although Ghana firefighters have been called, staff have not yet arrived at the scene.

Again, viewers were urged to come to the aid of hospital staff and babies if they were interested in helping.

But refuting the claims, the hospital’s public relations manager, Mustapha Salifu, described it as an exaggeration.

According to him, an air conditioning system in the doctors’ toilets caught fire, but the situation was quickly contained.

“It’s a false alarm to spread panic,” he added.
