The Kremlin presidential administration announced that Russia and Africa would hold a summit in Sochi to discuss ways to deepen their political and economic relations.
This document was published on its official website and said the meeting would be co-chaired by President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who heads the African Union (AU).
This event marks a milestone in Russian-African relations since all continental state leaders are invited alongside the main subregional badociations and organizations.
The meeting scheduled for 22-24 October should pay particular attention to political, economic, technical and cultural cooperation.
It also plans to discuss a wide range of issues on the agenda of the international community – concerted responses to emerging challenges and threats and strengthening regional stability.
At the end of the summit, participants are expected to adopt a political declaration on key areas of Russian-African cooperation.
On October 23, the Russian and Egyptian leaders would open an economic forum with the participation of officials and representatives of big companies. A set of commercial, economic and investment agreements will probably be concluded.
Meanwhile, President Putin sent greetings to African heads of state and government on the occasion of Africa Day.
His message read in part: "Please, accept my sincere greetings for Africa Day, a celebration that embodies the unity and solidarity of the peoples of your continent, their commitment to for independence, peace and prosperity. "
He noted that African countries are progressing confidently on the path of socio-economic and technological progress and playing an increasingly important role in addressing the issues on the agenda of the international community.
Multilateral cooperation in various fields has developed and mutually beneficial processes have progressed within the AU and other regional and subregional structures, he added.
The Russian President emphasized that his country fully supports the efforts of its African partners to resolve local conflicts and crises, counter terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, cross-border crime, challenges and threats to regional and global security.
"I am pleased to note the friendly and constructive relationship between our countries. I am convinced that the Russia-Africa Summit and the economic forum to be held in Sochi in October will contribute to the healthy development of these relations and will enable us to define new forms of fruitful cooperation. "
