Angry Krobo youth blocked the roads with a bonfire on dumsor
At least six riot protesters arrested by police Wednesday night to protest a power outage in Lower and Yilo Krobo neighborhoods were placed in pretrial detention.
Frank Gbegby, Odumase Krobo District Court Judge, detained the six persons for one week and returned them to court on Friday, April 12, 2019.
The prosecutor, DSP Akwasi Yeboah, has asked the court to extend the two-week deadline so that the police can open new investigations in order to prosecute. However, his request was not upheld by the judge, who insisted that one week was enough.
Meanwhile, three more people were shot dead by the police, bringing the number of injured to five.
Prosper Akutey, 21, was shot in the lower back and other bullets in the right arm, while 23-year-old Clement Nanor also suffered multiple fractures. They were transferred from St. Martin de Porres Hospital in Agormanya to the East Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
The third victim, Tettey Stella, is currently being cared for at St. Martin de Porres Hospital in Agormanya.
The police found only two people injured – Kwame Asare, 39, and Teye Kwame, 35.
The protest began in Nuaso in Ordum Krobo before spreading to other nearby communities, including Somanya, while angry young people from Nuaso near Kpong started a road from Nuaso to Odumase. and Somanya to attack the PDS / ECG office.
They set fire to car tires, including blocking main roads, prompting the police to intervene quickly to restore public order.
