Kumasi Airport will be a complete waste without the third phase and, therefore, may not be able to serve the intended purpose, according to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah.

He revealed that it was incumbent upon the government to execute the third phase of the project in parallel with the second phase underway, as it might not serve the intended purpose of expansion if it was not possible. It was not done.

"We visited the airport to inspect the ongoing work on the phase two project with the Prime Minister, but we realized that after completion of the project, the airport would no longer be functional. Phase three will host the fire station and the drive, but if you complete the current procedure without these elements, the airport will not work as planned, "he told the revelation.
Mr Simon Osei-Mensah stressed the need to simultaneously implement phases two and three in order to allow the airport to function fully at the end of the works, indicating that an agreement and the necessary documents have been prepared by the Cabinet and are awaiting Parliament's approval. .

"I will not say it was a mistake on the part of the previous government, but financial constraints. After studying the project, we realized that there would be problems if we allowed the second phase to end without working so that the final phase is integrated, "he said.
According to him, the second and third phases of the project will technically last 30 months, unless other unpredictable challenges promise to become a fully fledged international airport capable of accommodating two Boeing 737s.

"That is, if both planes are parked at the same time, taking into account the maneuvers, but the stationary planes can take more than two. There is also room for expansion as pbadenger traffic has increased, "he said.
