Commuters, drivers and merchants of Kumasi's Central Business District (CBD), in the Ashanti region, can now breathe a sigh of relief after the reopening of roads leading to Kejetia's new market by the town of Kumasi. Metropolitan Assembly of Kumasi (KMA).

The roads, which were closed approximately three years ago to allow the construction of the market, are as follows: Pampaso-Kejetia, Hello FM, Central Market, Kejetia-Komfo Anokye Roundabout, Kejetia-Suame Roundabout and Dr Mensah.

The reopening of the roads is intended to ensure the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians before the inauguration of the project.

Some merchants whose businesses were affected by the road closures welcomed the reopening, but street vendors and vendors who operate on portions of the sidewalks along the roads were opposed to the exercise.

The city authorities asked the merchants concerned to set up shop in one of the 34 satellite markets in the city.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, General Manager of the Kumasi Metropolitan Area, announced that the traders had already cooperated and that some of them had even begun to move.
