A shea butter processing facility and warehouse were inaugurated in Gizza-Gunda, a community in Kumbungu District, to help women collectors and shea processors improve their operations to increase their income.
The United States Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), supported the construction of the treatment plant and warehouse, which will benefit 600 women working in the field. the area.
Stephanie Sullivan, US ambbadador to Ghana, joined government officials, shea industry stakeholders and community members in Gizza-Gunda to inaugurate the facility.
Ambbadador Sullivan said, "This event highlights efforts to promote women's economic empowerment through partnerships that connect Ghanaian producers with US buyers."

The partnership for the development of the shea butter processing facility and warehouse was catalyzed by USAID and the Global Shea Alliance (GSA) and included partnerships with a US-based company. cosmetics, a local purchasing company (Savanna Fruit Company), Presbyterian Agricultural Services and the local community. as part of the Sustainable Shea Initiative (SSI) project.
The ISS, launched in 2016 by USAID in partnership with GSA, is a five-year, $ 18-million partnership aimed at promoting the sustainable expansion of the shea industry in Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire. Ivory, Togo and Burkina Faso.
The partnership matches USAID funds with the private sector and donor funds to provide the necessary skills training and infrastructure needed to support women collectors of shea.
The Gizaa-Gunda facility is one of 34 warehouses that USAID and GSA have set up with communities and cooperatives in Ghana over the past three years, allowing 30,000 women to increase their possibilities.
Ambbadador Sullivan said: "The United States hopes to find other opportunities in the coming year to partner with businesses, communities and non-profit organizations to create new opportunities for Ghanaians. and promote the path of self-reliance and resilience. "
