The end of the ebony reign
"Not very visible in 2015, she took a look in 2016, culminating in 2017 and, in the blink of an eye, in 2018, she was gone! Stubbed like a candle in the wind. Torn from us, our beautiful young flower!
A fully Ghanaian woman, she drew attention to herself, for her abrupt rise into the showbiz circles as a burgeoning singer on the back of a sensual image. But she was endearing because she had talent and it was obvious. At once!
This has prompted many concerned citizens to write these words to him, often offering advice or another to the fulfilling act.
Too many letters, audios and videos were produced in order to correct her, seeking to change who she was.
Alas, she did not live long enough to evolve through them, while a horrific car accident shortened her life. "
The above was my eulogy to Ebony in the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards brochure. For those who followed his craft, Ebony's hope of living after his demise was strong.
Ebony reigns
It's been a year since the Dancehall diva Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, known in showbiz as Ebony Reigns, has pbaded away. The sad incident occurred on February 8, 2018.
On March 24, 2018, his funeral was held in the esplanade of the state house in Accra.
Ebony was traveling with three other people from Sunyani, two of whom also died. They were his friends – Frankie Kuri and Atsu Vondee, a soldier. This is the driver of the jeep who survived the accident.
Her death proved one thing: she paid her dues the few years she worked in the music industry.
In the space of one year, she became the most sought – after female artist in Ghana. She was one of a kind and dared to prove herself by her uniqueness.
She has won the Humorous Artist of the Year Award at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Some had said that she would probably not have been chosen if she was alive because there was no one there. 39, other contenders at the time.
However, recordings of her subdued performances during the year under review would have earned her further praise, even if she had not died – it was not a price of sympathy.
With all the razzmatazz that characterized her death and funeral from the dance hall diva, we would not expect to see love and support diminish – at least not in the year.
When Ebony pbaded away, I told myself that this legacy will remain forever in the hearts and minds of music lovers. But a year later, I hesitate to remember this thought.
Maybe some of us were so absorbed in the attention that his disappearance had at the moment. After all, "abusua do funu" (we celebrate the dead).
Although his songs are still broadcast on radio and television, the appeasement of his birthday activities is a harbinger of my premonition about the longevity of his legacy.
The fact that Bullet played a decisive role in placing Ebony on the pedestal on which he arrived can not be contradicted.
For the one who has written most of the songs that made Ebony famous and who has deployed all his skills as an artist and executive branding, preserving his legacy can not be done without him.
Ebony's legacy died with "Kwarbony Records"
If Bullet was actively involved in activities with Ebony's works, he would have published and promoted some songs written by Ebony before his death; he also planned to organize a program in Ebony's memory.
Honestly, regarding how Ebony's father, Nana Kwarteng, insulted him about the vigil concert held before the funeral and the tragedy that accompanied it, Doubt that Bullet is willing to participate in a birthday celebration of one year. .
When Bullet had a quarrel with Ebony's father last year, he also said he was ready to give all his Ebony songs to his father. This actually means that "Bullet influence" will not come into play in promoting Ebony songs.
Mr. Kwarteng recently released one of Ebony's songs, 'Be My Driver', and I wonder how many people have ever heard this song. Hello Dad, it's not your job.
Unfortunately, that's how dark the future of Ebony's legacy is.
Soon, we may forget her songs and what she came to do.
According to the information we have, the father and the family are preparing to have a birthday on March 31, 2019. I doubt his effectiveness, especially at a time when most people are tired of everything Mr. Kwarteng does.
The accusations and counter-charges of how the money from the vigil concert was spent created doubts in the minds of the people as to which party (Bullet and Mr. Kwarteng) was honest. It really brought down the love of people for Ebony.
And oh! there is Wendy Shay, the young musician who was forced to fill the skin of Ebony at all costs. By keeping track of the events that led Wendy Shay to his rise in the music industry and his style, it is obvious that she embodies the character of Ebony.
Honestly, she has tried so well to play this role but, as they say, the photocopy can not be "identical to the original".
But let's not kid ourselves. If music fans forgot Ebony, Wendy's ability to play Ebony would be one of the reasons.
Wendy Shay may not have the talent for Ebony, but she has been accepted into Ghanaian music space just like Ebony. She sells the same product that Ebony sold. At least Ebony consumers therefore have a substitute.
People who liked "Maame Hwe", "Sponsor", "Kupe", "Hustle" and others are virtually the same customers as Wendy Shay's "Uber Driver", "Bedroom Commando", "Masakra".
Until now, Bullet continues to manage and write songs for Wendy Shay and that it does not reconcile with Ebony 's father, inheritance. Ebony continues to atrophy – his reign is being mastered.
That said, it should be celebrated the year of his death.
We liked Ebony. We appreciated her talent, but I'm afraid she will not stay long in the minds and hearts of music lovers.
