Kwesi Appiah, Black Stars Head Coach
Deputy Minister of Transport and Tema East MP Daniel Nii Titus Glover pleaded for the defense of coach Kwesi Appiah following calls by some people to have him sacked.
The future of Kwesi Appiah has become a topic of discussion after Ghana's anticipated exit from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
The legislator said that Ghanaians were doing so because of a program to ensure that Ghana appoints a foreign coach.
He challenged Ghanaians to fully trust him and to believe in him because he can keep his promises despite some problems or weaknesses,
"We must believe in ourselves as Ghanaians. This has been the philosophy of President Nana Addo. I do not personally know coach Kwesi Appiah, but I noticed he was a calm and down-tempered man, but he's a competent coach, "he told Happy FM.
He explained that four of the coaches who had won us cups at previous tournaments were Ghanaians, hence the need to trust the coach despite his flaws and mistakes. "The four CAN trophies have all been won by Ghanaian coaches, which means that Kwesi is able to do it again for Ghana."
"Since Kwesi Nyantakyi's existence, our local championship has deteriorated. If we send away Kwesi Appiah, which local coach can fill this position? For me, no one approaches, he is more capable than others. Currently in Ghana, James Akwesi Appiah is better than any local coach, so he should be maintained. "He added.
"What Kwesi Appiah needs is our support rather than criticizing. we should give Kwesi Appiah time and luck, because he can do the job, "he added.
However, some sections of Ghanaians want it, others believe that he can not be held responsible for the poor performance of the team in Egypt.
Kwesi Appiah has been offered a new contract by the Standards Committee at the expiry of his initial two-year contract. The new contract, according to reports, will end in December.
