Kyle Yorlets, murdered Nashville musician, recounts his loss and shares his memories

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Members of the Kyle Yorlets gang, the man shot during a robbery by five young miners, gave a speech for the first time since his death last week.

Yorlets was killed last Thursday night when five suspects aged 12 to 16 stole the 24-year-old man from outside his home on Torbett Street. According to the Nashville Metro Police, Yorlets handed over his wallet but refused to give his keys to the miners, when he was shot.

Michael Curry, the first group member to meet Kyle, said during the group's first interview since the shoot that they "we are all in mourning". Curry says he and Yorlets moved to Nashville four years ago to pursue their careers.

The band has been together for three years, Curry said it was "like spending time with his best friends all the time". Curry says that Kyle was a great singer, guitarist and had a talent for performance.

Curry said, "Kyle was really relaxed, confident, badured, the funniest person you have ever met." Michael Wiebell added that Kyle was a generous person, sometimes addressing strangers to wish them congratulations or share special moments.

Curry says that Kyle was still the same person on stage as he was off stage. "Groups around the world have turned to us to tell us what they feel," says Wiebell. Curry says the band was planning a tour in February and was planning the release of their new album, the second.

Christian Ferguson, a native of the White House, said on the future of the group: "I think we want to keep playing.We think it's the only thing to do," said Curry after having published the album in memory of their group mate killed.

Curry says "the most important thing of all, he just believed in freedom of expression." Wiebell says the group chose to talk to share who Kyle really was. "People need answers," Curry added.

Curry says to summarize how much Kyle loved music is a statement that the singer had previously made: "I will pursue the sounds until the day of my death." "We will continue, I think it's the best way to honor it," Curry says.

On violent crimes like the one that was declared against his friend, Curry said, "We only hope for this case and for any future case that the justice system will do justice as much as possible." "We want to thank everyone for the support and all the love they have shown to Kyle," added Wiebell.
