Kylian Mbappe, next club odds show Liverpool transfer battle may have to sign PSG star

Liverpool have been named bookmakers favorite to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe ahead of the summer 2021 transfer deadline on September 3.

Mbappe dismantled Barcelona with a brilliant hat-trick this week, establishing himself as one of the best players in world football.

The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer of 2022 and has so far rejected any offer of a new deal from PSG. Mauricio Pochettino says he hopes a new deal can be reached, but if PSG want to recover the costs of the World Cup winner, they will be forced to sell this summer.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Mbappe in the past. He is a Nike athlete, alongside Liverpool minority shareholder LeBron James, who is good friends with the Frenchman.

Liverpool also signed a new kit deal with Nike this summer, switching from New Balance in the process. As part of the deal, the Reds have access to the plethora of marketing figures from Nike, including LeBron and Serena Williams, to help further exploit the US market, and will receive a cut in income from Nike by selling Liverpool gear. .

The stars have lined up for Liverpool to make Mbappe a run and Sky Bet has named the Reds as favorites to become Mbappe’s next club if he leaves PSG this summer. According to the bookmaker, Liverpool are 6/1 to be Mbappe’s next club before September 3, 2021.

Liverpool will face competition from Real Madrid, who are priced at 8/1, while Manchester City and Barcelona are next closest at 16/1 and 20/1.

Of course, there is also the possibility that Mbappe will stay with PSG and sign a new deal or play the final year of his current contract.

Earlier this year, Jamie Carragher suggested it was time to separate the top three from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

“When we talk about this Liverpool team we are talking about the top three,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. “It’s almost like they come in a package

“The reason I say Liverpool’s top three are unique is not that they’re better than the other three before, it’s how long they’ve been together. They are now in their fourth season. and the Premier League’s big three top three have normally only been together for two or three years.

“We are now in the fourth year for Liverpool and we will maybe go into the fifth year because they all have two or three years on contract.

“They’re all in their late twenties and sooner or later those first three will have to be dismantled. You can’t, in two years, say ‘we’re going to buy a new first three’ and replace them. Everything. That will change with the time. “

If Liverpool would take Carragher’s advice and break their current attacking triumvirate, Mbappe would be a potential option.
