Known for their harsh winters and hard work schedules, New Yorkers would be forgiven for thinking they live in America's most stressful city. But a new survey suggests they would be wrong.

The most stressed American city is actually Los Angeles, according to aoll of more than 3000 residents of Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Miami and Chicago, who found that 76% of City of Angels residents felt at least "a bit stressed" every day.

New Yorkers were not far behind, with 72% reporting daily stress, while 65% of Chicagoers said the same thing. They are followed by Miami (64%), Dallas (48%) and San Francisco (44%), suggesting that Northern Californians lead a more peaceful life than their counterparts in the South.

The survey also looked at the number of days that US residents could spend without a work break and revealed that in Los Angeles, the figure was 10 and a half days.

Meanwhile, New Yorkers have reported higher levels of resilience, as they could last seven more days.

In addition, survey participants were asked to indicate the most stressful location in their respective cities.

More than a third (35%) of Los Angeles residents said the Hollywood and Highland Center entertainment complexes were the least conducive to relaxation.

Unsurprisingly for New Yorkers, the most stressful place was Times Square, a major tourist destination in the city's east coast.

Derek Dabrowski, Vice President of Brand Marketing for Canada Dry Ginger Ale, said, "One can find daily stress anywhere, but there are certainly more known places to induce stress.
