Kpone's discharge has exceeded its available capacity
Former general manager of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, David Annan blamed the current difficulties of the Kpone landfill site for lack of investment.
Mr. Annan was MCE when the landfill plan was launched between 2005 and 2009.
But the following leaders have failed to build on the existing plant infrastructure, he said Tuesday at the Citi Breakfast Show.
"It saddens me not to go home [refuse]. I am very sorry when I see the people who are the pioneers of waste management in our country today. They only think that they will be paid. They are not investing in that way to bring mental health back to the region. Now, go ahead we have more than one mountain in just a few years.
There is also concern that trucks are not paying enough for dumping, but Annan said it was not an excuse for the lack of financial investment.
"I would have liked that they say that the money you gave us is not good and that we can not do the work rather than go to work." mediocre and punish everyone again for that. "
Mr. Annan suggested that as a temporary measure, the land around the landfill could be quickly upgraded to complete the main site.
"There are other pits next door that must also be recovered. All this was part of the project but they do not use these areas now. They can use them in a very ingenious way while the government and everyone are thinking about how to build a treatment plant. "
The Kpone landfill site has exceeded its available capacity and is struggling to absorb waste from waste management companies.
It is feared that this will harm the sanitation in Accra and the environment.
"If the waste continues to produce large volumes, probably in June or September [2019]There will be more important challenges of even climbing cars and this is not just about cars. When we discharge above a certain height, gas emissions will also have a direct impact on ozone, which will create problems, so some of these things need to be re-examined, "said Ernest, representative of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly at the Kpone dump site. Lanson said at the Citi Breakfast Show.
