The Nigerian state government of Lagos has ordered all schools closed by Friday to pave the way for holiday festivities.
State official Abiola Seriki-Ayeni said in a statement that schools would reopen on January 4, but boarding school students would resume a day earlier.
She urged parents to ensure their children follow Covid-19 guidelines at home and asked school administrators to ensure compliance in January.
Schools in Lagos State resumed in September after months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
They closed briefly and resumed in November due to protests against anti-police brutality that took place for weeks.
The state government had to harmonize the school calendar after the interruptions.
