LaLiga Santander Bale converts the winner after a controversial penalty for Casemiro
PKarim Benzema and Gareth Bale chained the victories against the Levant on Sunday night against Real Madrid at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia in Valencia.
No doubt the victory won by Los Blancos will be discussed in the coming days, including the second match penalty involving Casemiro and Doukoure. Both calls came after a VAR review, but the story of Sunday's result was even more important.
Levante played excellent football and the local team will rightly feel that the football gods were not on their side after hitting the post twice. Bale's discontent with his team-mates after the Welsh goal, suggesting a division in Real's locker room.
Even with the Copa Clasico return match against Barcelona on Wednesday, Real manager Santiago Solari chose not to turn back and presented his best start possible. With Sergio Ramos suspended, Nacho was hailed as central defender, while Bale and Marcelo were on the bench. Also note that the troubled player Isco did not even land on the list of matches.
Levante is still a formidable opponent at home when one of the two great Spaniards arrives in town. They had a good start on Sunday and claimed a penalty when Rochina fell into the box, but referees Iglesias Villanueva and VAR said that there had been Dani Carvajal not pushed from behind.
This was followed by Roger Marti's lung at the back post after a lopped head that saw the ball staring at the post. Opportunities did not stop coming to Levante. Rober Pier was there to get out of the dead end, but just pbaded the crossbar.
The controversy would surface shortly before the half, with VAR in the foreground. A Luka Modric center touched Bardhi's arm, which was covering his face just inside the penalty area. The game went to VAR and Villanueva did not take long to declare that Bardhi's arm was tight enough to deserve a kick. Benzema has accelerated and converted without problem to make it 0-1 to Real.
Real good fortune at both ends continued, as for a second time, Roger hit the post, this time the one to the right of Courtois after a nice set up from the hosts.
Levante's efforts would ultimately pay off at the hour of play with a purposefully crafted goal. Antonio Luna's pbad was filtered into Jose Morales' left flank and his center was spotted by Roger Launcher, who deflected perfectly to give Courtois a 1-1 lead.
Solari made his first change shortly after, taking off from Toni Kroos for Fede Valverde, while Los Blancos began to take control in search of a winner. Vinicius had wreaked havoc on the right side of Levante's defense and the Brazilian quick was all that was needed to regain the advantage for Real, but Levante's goalkeeper, Aitor, l? had denied.
Solari then made his second substitution, when Benzema gave way to Bale, who suddenly found himself watching the decisive moment of the match. Villanueva has once again attracted the wrath of local fans when he whistled a penalty in favor of Real after Casemiro seemed to be colliding with Doukoure in the Levante region.
The VAR decided that Villanueva's call was upheld, even though the replayed matches showed no contact between the two, and the confident Welsh scored the penalty for a lead of 1-2 Real. But Bale was far from happy after scoring goals, refusing to celebrate and even touching Lucas Vazquez's back.
But it was not an easy end for Real, as Nacho received a second yellow card, leaving Real with 10 men for the final minutes. However, Solari's men held on to accumulate the three points and stay nine points behind Barcelona in the match. League table.
