Derby would be in talks to sign a contract with former left-back Chelsea and England's Ashley Cole until the end of the season.

The 38-year-old is a free agent after being released by the Los Angeles Galaxy MLS last November.

Lampard wants Cole to provide defensive coverage, while his team continues to advance in the Premier League, the duo having played together at Stamford Bridge for eight years.

The former Arsenal star, who has won 107 caps in England, helped Chelsea win the Premier League title in 2010 and the 2012 Champions League.

He also won seven FA Cups, as well as the 2007 League Cup and the Europa League in 2013, in a brilliant career to date.
