For Lana Condor, graduation day is on the horizon. Her “To All the Boys” character Lara Jean is heading to college, and with the release of the final film in the trilogy, Condor is leaving the franchise that catapulted her into the limelight. The actress is ready to leave high school and boy drama of this world and face new characters after filming all three films one after another.
But that doesn’t mean she’s emotionally ready to say goodbye.
“I haven’t dealt with this coming to an end. I don’t think I will until the movie hits Netflix and you can hit play and hearDun-Dunnn“. And then, like – Oh my god, ”Condor says of the upcoming release of the third movie,“ Always and Forever ”. “There’s a line in the movie, and Lara Jean says, ‘I never realized you could be so sad and so happy at the same time.’ And that perfectly sums up how I’m feeling right now.
Much has already changed this year since the release of the second film. Last January, Condor and his co-star Noah Centineo had just returned to Los Angeles – wearing masks for the first time – after a surprise screening in Brazil. “My makeup artist who traveled with me, she had just started hearing about this mysterious virus and she was like, ‘We have to wear masks,’” says Condor. After the film’s Los Angeles premiere, they planned to continue to the Philippines. “Right after the premiere, Netflix shut it down.”
There is no international press tour or in-person premiere this time around; no surprise screenings and a great farewell tour. Condor and Centineo watched a cut of the movie together on FaceTime.

Condor is at home in Seattle. In early 2020, she left Los Angeles to return to the city where she grew up. After living in her suitcase for several years, she found herself lacking stability; she wanted to put down roots and be closer to her family. “Somewhere where I felt I could breathe easier. And Seattle was that for me, ”she says. “Not to be melodramatic, but I feel like it’s the healthiest thing I’ve done for myself.”
The 23-year-old actress became an overnight star several years ago with the release of the first film, “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”. The film was a huge success and the enthusiasm was fueled through the following films. Since then, Condor has been named the face of Neutrogena and has appeared in campaigns for Aerie and Old Navy. Like his character, Condor came of age through the movies.
And while the choices in the previous two films revolved around boys, Condor appreciates that “Always and Forever” sees her character consider what she wants her future to look like, regardless of anyone else. Condor hopes this theme will appear in the final scene. “I wanted this young girl to feel like she was taking life and storming it on her own,” she says.

Condor is thrilled to step into different characters and explore new worlds on screen; the projects she has lined up are very different from “To All the Boys”. But she doesn’t forget her roots – Condor attributes her new opportunities to the profile she has built for herself through the films. The latest film also gave him the opportunity to visit Vietnam with his family. The shooting took her to South Korea, where her character reconnects with her heritage. “I hadn’t been back to Vietnam since I was adopted,” Condor says. “I connected to this [storyline], coming back to see where you came from.
Like any graduate, Condor has some advice for herself younger.
“I would say to protect your energy,” she said. “I now know that I have to be physically and mentally in a really healthy place to do my best.
“And I think that goes for everyone, I think it’s universal,” she adds. “Being at home and in this pandemic, I’ve talked to a lot of people who have felt the same way, where they’re like – ‘I just realized, I really need to take care of myself right now. ‘ Because that’s all we have: this unique body and this unique mind.
