Sunday, August 22, 2021 will forever be remembered by the family of Eunice Yeboah, the victim of a stray bullet fired during a wedding celebration in Nima, Accra.
A distraught brother of Eunice told GhanaWeb in an exclusive interview that he was returning home with his sister when the incident happened.
The 27-year-old had previously expressed fears about indiscriminate gunfire from jubilant youth on the marriage pitch.
Shortly after passing by the wedding venue, Wisdom reported that her sister suddenly started screaming, implying that she had been hit in the hip.
He quickly carried her, called for help, and chartered a taxi to take her to the hospital.
Eunice ultimately died at dawn on Tuesday after undergoing 6-hour surgery to remove the bullet that severed her intestines and uterus, doctors said.
Eunice’s mother, Janet, also told GhanaWeb that after she sewed and joined her intestines, the doctor told them she had to be put in a machine that would cost them GH ¢ 2,000.
“… The doctor told me they had finished the operation, but she is unconscious and has been put on oxygen, so we should pray.” After a while, the doctor said that Eunice had to be put in a machine to help her recover, but it would cost us GH ¢ 2,000.
“I told them I only had 1,300 GH ¢, so I would like to make an initial deposit while I claim the rest. I used some of the money to buy drugs prescribed by the doctor. ..
“After going back and forth as she fought for her life, Eunice passed away at dawn on Tuesday…”, added the mother of the deceased in tears.
Eunice Yeboah’s family said the case is under investigation by police, although no arrests have yet been made.
Godson, Eunice’s older brother claimed that several complaints had been filed with the Nima Police Station regarding the indiscriminate use of firearms in the area, but nothing had been done about it.
