Winter is supposed to come. But for Game of Thrones fans, the wait may seem eternal.
The great battle
An article published by Entertainment Weekly in the last season of March 4 was dedicated to the Battle of Winterfell, which seems almost as distressing to the actors as it is to their characters.
It should be "the longest consecutive battle sequence ever engaged in a movie, and will bring together the largest number of main GoT characters together since the first episode of the series in 2011," reports EW.
Here are some excerpts from this article:
- "The beloved heroes were dead," says EW, without naturally revealing who, for what pleasure would it be? Characters involved include Arya Stark, in this character's first battle, as well as Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, and Brienne of Tarth. Sansa Stark, who does not usually participate in battles, is also mentioned, and Samwell Tarly, who is not usually a fighter, also joins.
- The Battle of Winterfell is called "arguably the most difficult episode to produce in the history of television". In this one, living characters confront the army of the dead. It took 11 weeks of night filming during which 750 people worked all night in freezing conditions and in "mud to the ankle".
- The director Miguel Sapochnik reportedly tried to find a longer battle at the cinema and would not have succeeded, but the closest was the Helm's headquarters of nearly 40 minutes in The Lord of the Rings: both rounds ".
- One of the regular actresses has fainted during a scene that required a lot of standing. She came home early, but was back the next day. His identity has not been revealed.
- The Battle of Winterfell was not the only major episode of the last season. Naturally, the secret reigned in the final of the series. EW did not have any revelations. The article notes however that "only members of the team wearing a special episode 6 badge were allowed on the set during filming and that certain scenes had been filmed on a closed set."
See a dragon
HBO took pity on its fans on February 24, unveiling the tiniest flyby of the show's latest season as part of a longer video showcasing new shows and upcoming shows. And the most notable part was the one showing Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) seeing her first dragon. As he flies over the lines of troops on the march, the youngest daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark stares with wonder, wonder and a little joy.
More recent footage of Game of Thrones in the video shows a White Walker, a Daenerys Targaryen, a Jon Snow, a Tormund Giantsbane and more dragon actions.
You can now create a countdown calendar, as HBO announced in January that the show would return for its last season on April 14th.
HBO also released a short teaser showing Jon reuniting with his sisters Arya and Sansa Stark, while the three wander through the crypts of the Winterfell family home and hear mysterious messages from their parents. (Yes, including Jon's mother, Lyanna Stark, sister of Ned.)
The teaser is just that, a teasing – This scene will not appear in the new episodes, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The latest treats
Game of Thrones has so many fans looking for new pieces that it can be difficult to rank the latest reports. Here are three of the latest floating gossipy teasers in the world of Westeros.
Episodes and dates revealed
For over a year, it has been said that the episodes would be too big. And on March 15, HBO released broadcast times and release dates for the last six episodes.
Dates are the easy part. Once the show returns on April 14, there will be a new episode every Sunday at May 19, so do not plan to take a Sunday.
Running times vary a bit. This first episode is 54 minutes, the second 58 minutes, then they lengthen considerably. Episode 3 lasts one hour and 22 minutes, episode 4 one hour and 18 minutes and episodes 5 and 6 each last one hour and 20 minutes. The duration of the episodes is not a big problem for the fans, but it adds to the idea that the last season of six episodes will be full of activities.
Try the iron throne
The big question remains: who will end up sitting on the iron throne and governing this country at once cruel and fascinating? We do not know who wins the throne (still looking for Tyrion here), but the big stars try it all in posters recently published by HBO February 28th. They show all the main characters each giving their chance to the Throne, badociating them with an iconic quote from this person.
Even characters who are extremely unlikely to defy the throne (Gray Worm, Tarth's Brienne, Samwell Tarly) have been photographed. And of course, there are theories. The British newspaper The Independent has written that Jon Snow's posture is so similar to Ned Stark's in a promotional photo of the first season that this could be a clue – will Jon meet such a sad fate for Ned? Let's hope not.
Khal Drogo and his Khaleesi together
It is very unlikely that we will see the late Khal Drogo return to the last season (though … flashbacks … a terrifying White Walker?). But the actor who played it, Aquaman Star Jason Momoa has found Daenerys (actress Emilia Clarke) at the Oscars at the end of February. He shared an image of both on his Instagram page with the caption "So proud of you Emilia Clarke, I love you with all my heart" and signed "Aloha, Drogo." More than 1.6 million people loved the image in less than a week.
Fans became a bit excited in May 2018 when Momoa shared a picture on Instagram in which he was seen lifting a Guinness with Game of Thrones showrunners, DB Weiss and David Benioff during the filming. ;program. Maybe they're just three friends coming out. But fans can dream.
More news and rumors
Season 7 is over in August 2017 with dragons and white walkers and, um, a little involuntary incest. And fans eagerly awaiting the resolution can not even console themselves with a new book by George R.R. Martin in the saga because ha ha ha boo hoo hoo.
But the book, like the winter, arrives. Just before Thanksgiving 2018, Martin told The Wall Street Journal that he was in an isolated mountain cabin, where he was starting to "crush" and write, and that he was "working hard" in Winds of Winter. He would not give spoilers, but he said that he had a master plan, despite the events of the television series.
"I'm always going to finish it the way I've always wanted it, as it has been in my head for 25 years now," said Martin.
Martin too talked about Winds of Winter in August 2018. Then he noted that some people died on the screen but did not die in the books. (Margaery? Hodor? Shireen? We can dream …) Despite what Martin said, he is not opposed to the death of major characters on the page – and blame J.R.R. Gandalf of Tolkien, of all people.
This last episode will do everything, according to Nathalie Emmanuel, star of Thrones, who plays Missandei. In August 2018, she told the Hindustan Times that the season would finally put an end to some intriguing intrigues.
"This season will be incredibly satisfying for people," Emmanuel said. "It's going to be incredibly exciting and heart-wrenching, I feel that people are going to have the stupefied mind when looking at the last one."
But those of us who have to live in the world of tax deadlines and performance appraisals could certainly enjoy an imaginary escape to the country of Tyrion castles, forest fires and one-liners. So while we wait and say goodbye like Daenerys Targaryen herself, here's a guide to the final finale of HBO's blockbuster fantasy success.
We will update this story as new information is revealed. Do not forget to check out the intrigue section for any new details or rumors. Hold the door, the incoming spoilers!
Info on the last season
The big news came on November 1, when James Hibberd of Entertainment Weekly unveiled the details of a visit. Of course, he was not allowed to let a lot flow, but here are the highlights:
Fans might be surprised to know who survives until the end
While watching the last episode filmed, Hibberd wrote, "I look around me in a meticulously constructed setting, which I've never seen before. Many actors play, and I'm stunned: There are characters in the final that I did not expect. "
Winterfell arrives
The more it changes, the more it is the same thing. Hibberd says the last season begins at Stark's Winterfell stronghold and contains a lot of parallels with the show's pilot. "Instead of the arrival of King Robert's procession, that is Daenerys and his army," he writes, "from there, the characters meet, mingle, and prepare to fight." army of the dead.
And speaking of Winterfell …
The whole Winterfell has experienced a mbadive expansion for the last season. There is now an "imposing castle exterior, a larger yard, and more interconnected walls and ramparts," reports EW.
Build at the mbadive battle
We have already heard that there will be a mbadive battle (presumably between man and death) that took 55 days to shoot and that takes place at three different locations. Hibberd's report says that "greatly understates" the actual events, that the 55 days were spent on outdoor scenes shot at Winterfell and that the battle was shot for additional weeks in indoor studio settings.
Oh, brother
There is a very little teasing that has fallen – Sansa (Sophie Turner) is not happy that Jon (Kit Harington) has bent his knee in front of Daenerys, which should not surprise those who know the proud Stark legacy. But it looks like she's finally changed her mind about Dany. (Which is good because they are actually a family.)
Do not believe these scripts leaked
While noting that an alleged script leak had appeared on Reddit, Hibberd warned that real Game of Thrones scripts do not mention Game of Thrones, and that production documents use code names to refer to actors. (Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys, was nicknamed "Eldiss".)
Release date, episodes and timing
So what is there to watch? The last season is season 8 and HBO has confirmed its arrival on April 14, 2019 and will include six episodes.
For more than a year, it has been said that the episodes would be super-sized. And on March 11, Winter Is Coming, the site of Game of Thrones fans, pointed out that HBO now listed the length of the episodes on its website. The first episode is listed at 54 minutes, the second at 58 minutes. Although HBO does not have a complete program posted beyond this, one wise commentator noted that playing with the URLs of known episodes, it was possible to view the lists for the rest of the episodes of the season . If they are correct, the following episodes last 60 minutes, then 78 minutes and the last two, 80 minutes each. Not quite the size of "mini-movie" that we talked about earlier, but certainly longer than normal.
This is not a big problem for fans, but it further reinforces the idea that the last season of six episodes will be rich in stocks.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik, will direct the episodes, while Benioff, Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill will write the scripts. As fans are well aware, the TV show has deviated from Martin's books by necessity, since a new book has not appeared since 2011.
To watch the new season each time it ends, you will need a subscription to HBO (or a friend with one), but if you do not have the cable, you can pay for HBO Now, a version of the HBO Streaming subscription that does not require you to have a regular cable subscription (or even a TV). You are not sure to like it? You can broadcast HBO Now for free for 30 days. And you can catch up with the seasons spent via HBO, Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra Blu-ray. Past seasons are also available on Hulu with a premium HBO supplement.
Meet the actors
The main cast members who have survived at this point will be back (with one exception: Ellaria Sand, who probably still watches her daughter Tyene's body rot in Cersei's dungeon).
Here are some of the best stars that will come back:
Lannister's children, Tyrion (Dinklage), Queen Cersei (Headey) and Jaime (Coster-Waldau), still survive, even though Tyrion and Cersei shoot at each other and Jaime seems to be caught in the middle. Did Cersei lie to her brother / lover about being pregnant with their fourth child together, now that the other three have died? Very probably.
As for House Stark, Father Ned (Sean Bean) lost the lead in the first season and his mother Catelyn (Michelle Fairley) as well as his brothers Robb (Richard Madden) and Rickon (Art Parkinson). should really a zigzag) later joined him in the afterlife. But Jon Snow (Harington), who is really the son of Ned's sister, and the real children of Ned, Bran (Hempstead-Wright), Arya (Williams) and Sansa (Turner) are still alive and discover that life in Westeros is really a proposition of Stark.
Daenerys Targaryen (Clarke) seems to have found love with Jon Snow – a pity that she is his aunt. (This sort of thing never really mattered for Targaryen, tbh.) She also teamed up with Tyrion, and her faithful family includes eunuch Gray Worm (Anderson), Missandei (Emmanuel), and Jorah Mormont (Glen).
Samwell Tarly (Bradley-West) and his partner Gilly (Hannah Murray), one of Jon Snow's friends, have discovered essential secrets about Westerosi's story during their stay at the Citadel, and you know that they will eventually come out.
Tarth Brienne (Christie), Tormund Giantsbane (Hivju), Davos Seaworth (Cunningham), Sandor "The Hound" Clegane (McCann) and his terrifying zombie brother Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane (Björnsson), Arya's are from return. Fellow Gendry (Dempsie), the mysterious priestess Melisandre (van Houten), tormented Theon Greyjoy (Allen) and his evil uncle Euron (Asbæk).
Little is known about the new characters that will join the series in its last season. But according to the highly prestigious Game of Thrones Wikia, actor Marc Rissmann will play Harry Strickland, commander of the Golden Company, an army for hire. Fergus (played by Seamus O 'Hara), Willa (Alice Nokes) and Sarra (Danielle Galligan) are other new characters we know well beyond their names.
What we know of the plot
On November 13, director David Nutter revealed some details about the last season in his AMA Reddit. Asked about Daenerys' goals, he said Targaryen's quest for the Iron Throne had good intentions. "I think she wants to make a difference," he said. "She wants to free the slaves, she wants to be a good and just leader, and after so many years, she has pursued her and now she is pursuing her – I think that in some ways It's a destiny for her and a part of what really exceeds her own call and something she's destined to become.
Nutter also promised the return of at least one giant wolf, and said spectators David Benioff and Dan Weiss were aware of what the fans wanted to see when they were preparing the last season, and took that in consideration. When asked to describe last season in three words, he chose "Spectacular, inspiring, satisfying".
Wolves maybe, but do not expect to see Lannister's cat, Ser Pounce. Benioff and Weiss joked (we hope) in Entertainment Weekly that Cersei had had the bullet killed horribly. Let's just imagine that we did not hear that.
Remember the red wedding? When asked to compare the upcoming episode to this bloodbath, Nutter said, "As for season 8 versus the red wedding, I just have to tell you: hang on to your seat, because it's going to be special. "
Peter Dinklage, of whom Tyrion Lannister is a favorite character of many, revealed a little about what will happen to the youngest Lannister. First, he said the series "beautifully finishes" for his character, but he added "whether it's tragic or not." Fans probably did not expect Tyrion to live happily ever after, but "tragic" is a scary word, especially in this context.
Have you wondered what happened to the few surviving werewolves? Joe Bauer, visual effects supervisor for the show, promises The werewolf of Jon Snow, Ghost, will play an interesting role in the last season. "(Ghost is) very present and doing pretty cool things in Season 8," Bauer told The Huffington Post. Well – Jon will need all the support he can.
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, says the final of the series will be divisive. Although she did not reveal spoilers, Turner told IGN"I think a lot of fans are going to be disappointed and a lot of them are going to be on the moon, and I think it will be really interesting to see people's reactions."
We also know that even after the end of the show, fans will be able to relive the terrors and triumphs of Westeros in visit the sets of Game of Thrones in Northern Ireland. HBO does not confirm many details for what will be called the Game of Thrones Legacy's attractions, but the Winterfell, Castle Black and King's Landing decors could be included, and costumes, props, weapons and other items will be on display. .
And at the end of September, George R.R. Martin published a new excerpt from the book on his website. Unfortunately, it was not the much anticipated Winds of Winter, but rather Fire & Blood, the first volume in its Targaryen story. Fire & Blood is written from the point of view of Archmaester Gyldayn, and delves into the life of the fascinating Targaryen, the family of Daenerys (and we now know – spoiler alert – that of Jon Snow).
An interesting detail that might not be played during the last season: Queen Alysanne is flying her Dragon Silverwing over Castle Black, but the dragon, who has never refused to fly where his mistress wishes, will not go north of the Wall. It might just be something Martin designed for Fire & Blood, but if he told viewers that dragons did not like to fly north of the wall, that might be a problem.
Old updates
Prepare for serious action and be prepared to lose some of the main characters. An HBO executive made the last season sound like a bloodbath, describing the cast members "one by one … falling in front of their death". If there are too many deaths for you, keep in mind that Martin announced in August 2018 that all those who die on the screen will not die in his books.
the smaller piece of movie, a few seconds, was released in August 2018, as shown in an excerpt from a HBO video promoting its 2019 lineup. Except Jon Snow (Harington Kit) embracing his sister Sansa (Sophie Turner), nothing happens, but the fans will take everything away.
We know that Emilia Clarke, aka Daenerys Targaryen, finished shooting his last scenes, thanks to a touch adieu Instagram she posted in June 2018. Unfortunately she did not offer any details on the plot or spoilers.
And although it's not a spoiler, we know that "someone will die" in the last season, thanks to the armorer Natalia Lee, the series's gunsmith. he's spoken to Richard Trenholm from CNET. "There are always nice weapons and swords," Lee said. "I can not really say much, it will be the biggest battle in the history of television, I can tell, it just gets bigger and gets worse."
Drogo may or may not be present this season, but according to a Daily Express report dated June 2018, the Dothraki would be back to help their Khaleesi. A horse riding center in Ireland has apparently deleted two Instagram posts, one showing a Dothraki warrior, another having mentioned it.
We do not know if there will be other celebrity cameos, but we know the actor who played Hodor, Kristian Nairn, thought that The controversial presence of singer Ed Sheeran in 2017 hits hard. "I'm not a fan of cameos in Game of Thrones." I do not like them. I think it's stupid, "Nairn told The Huffington Post." Especially Ed Sheeran. I was wondering, "Why is Ed Sheeran here?" I mean, Ed Sheeran is great. He's a great guy, a great musician, but why is he in Game of Thrones? "
Star Maisie Williams knows how the series ends and she is tell his motherthen you may be able to corrupt her. Nor did it buy HBO President Casey Bloys by announcing that the program was film of multiple purposes to deceive curious people on the set who might run away from big news. "I immediately thought," I do not think we have the budget to shoot several different purposes, "she told Jimmy Kimmel.
Should a younger generation of Northern leaders, led by young Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey), Alys Karstark (Megan Parkinson) and Ned Umber (Harry Grasby), prepare for a strong presence last season? We hope so, because Lyanna Mormont is a tough guy.
Will the dragon post appear again? The Winter Is Coming fan site announced on April 2 that the show was preparing to tour in a ruined Roman amphitheater located in the old Spanish city of Italica, which served as a float for a major scene of the season 7. It could serve as a pivot point for the dragon. drama or simply a beautiful, giant gathering place and open for a battle or other confrontation.
Gendry has finally finished rowing and is ready to move on. Actor Joe Dempsie, who plays Robert Baratheon's secret son, Gendry, told Digital Spy that he had filmed "not bad" from the last season, but that he would not reveal it. intelligently it would survive until the last episode. Nevertheless, based on his affiliation, fans expect great things from the young blacksmith to royal blood.
Speaking of blood, there are times when the show goes too far. In the most terrifying advertisement of the 2019 Super Bowl, a light ad from Bud Light became a performance when The mountain of Game of Thrones murdered the mascot of the brewing company, the Bud Knight, in a scene that was too reminiscent of the terrible death of Oberyn Martell. How did they sell this to a Budweiser board? "And then, the representation of your brand will be horribly killed! This will certainly make people buy our beer!"
Will the last season include more flashbacks featuring Rhaegar Targaryen, father of you-know-who (R + L = J)? The actor who plays it, Wilf Scolding, posted a photo of him on May 2, in front of a hotel in Belfast, where the show is spinning, and fans have dislocated speculation. He has since deleted it, but you can see it here, and really, the fans would like to see a little more of his doomed relationship with Ned's sister, Lyanna Stark.
According to another rumor, courtesy of Watchers on the Wall, Tarth's Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) have filmed a scene in which they are fighting once again, probably attacking the dead -living. It's a beautiful juicy scene to wait for those who ship this couple ready for battle – but what does that mean for poor Tormund?
During an interview at the Cannes Film Festival, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) revealed that the scenarios had only been given to the distribution in digital form, and that they had been self -deleted after a while. So, not peddle these things on eBay, people. Coster-Waldau also revealed that he thinks that the show ends "in the right way" and "on its own terms". He says the screenplay is a complete story from Season 1 until the end, "and that makes sense." What's going on with GOT spin-offs?
Coster-Waldau also alluded to an identity crisis for Jaime during the last season, as his ever-complex relationship with Cersei, his lover, continued to deteriorate. "The core of him has always been Cersei," he told Vanity Fair. "When it's removed, what are you then, what's left, is there anything left?"
What happens with GOT fallout?
George R.R. Martin does not want to call them spin-offs, but HBO is working on five "successors" taking place in the Game of Thrones universe. Martin told the fans should not look for familiar faces, as all new shows will take place before the period described in Game of Thrones. It is not yet known whether all series, or the number of them, will actually be broadcast.
But we definitely advanced more than others. Martin called him The long night, then I must say that this is not the official title (but if we had to guess, that's the case). And on February 4, HBO announced that the show would begin to be toured early in the summer. We also know Naomi Watts was thrown as "mundane with a secret", and Josh Whitehouse also has a role.
Need background? In June 2018, Deadline reported that HBO ordered this driver from writer Jane Goldman, known for the Kingsman film series, as well as for Stardust, Kick-Ass and two blockbuster X-Men. It will be set thousands of years before Game of Thrones, and HBO has presented a rather generic plot summary, with the exception of this bit about the White Walkers.
"The series describes the descent of the golden age world of heroes at its darkest hour," revealed the network. "And one thing is certain: horrible secrets from the history of Westeros to the true origin of the White Walkers, from the mysteries of the East to the legendary Starks … this is not the story we think we know. "
Martin says "Some (successor shows) may not even be programmed on Westeros." (A Essos-set story would definitely be cool.)
We know what will not be covered: no rebellion of Robert or Dunk and Egg. Robert's rebellion refers to the rebellion of Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon and Jon Arryn against House Targaryen. Dunk and Egg are other characters from Martin, a hedge knight and his squire, who have their own stories unfolding a century before the current books. Martin stated that when he would have finished writing all his Dunk and Egg stories, he would very much like them to have a show and that Robert's rebellion be explained in the current book series. when (if …) he will have finished.
