LONDON: Pep Guardiola warned Benjamin Mendy to put a stop to his late night surprises after the Manchester City defender was seen at a club early Saturday morning.

French TV star Mendy was reportedly at the Manchester nightclub until 0230 GMT, according to British media reports on Tuesday 2 April.

Mendy had not been included in the City team for his Premier League win at Fulham later on Saturday.

Instead, he had to attend a training session as he struggles to get in shape after a new season of injury.

The boss of the city, Guardiola, admitted that he could not force Mendy to stay home, but he made it clear that he was frustrated by the player's latest full-spirited incident. .

"They are old enough to know what they have to do, I am not his father.I would prefer that he go home earlier, but I do not control the players in this situation," he said. Guardiola told reporters on Tuesday.

"(I'm not frustrated, I'm a relaxed guy, maybe it does not look like that, but I sleep very well."

Mendy, 24, has had two campaigns devastated by the injury to City since joining the club in 2017.

He appeared only once for the champions of England, replacing the League Cup in Burton in January, since he had a meniscus surgery in November.

Mendy missed most of his first season at the club due to a cruciate ligament injury.

He was also disciplined last September when he went late to treatment for a foot injury after attending a high profile boxing bout, Anthony Joshua in London the night before.

Guardiola said Mendy was now fit and in contention for Wednesday's clash with Cardiff at Etihad Stadium.
