RENO, Nev. – Latest news from the Miss USA contest in Reno, Nevada (local time, local time, PDT):

Cheslie Kryst of North Carolina was crowned Miss USA 2019.
Alejandra Gonzalez of New Mexico is ranked first, and Triana Browne of Oklahoma, second for Thursday night's competition in Reno, Nevada.
Kryst earned a law degree and an MBA from Wake Forest University before becoming a litigator in civil litigation. He volunteers to reduce the sentences imposed on inmates.
The 27-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, said in the last round that she was happy to participate in Nevada because it is the first and only state in the country to have a majority in both legislatures.

The three finalists of this year's Miss USA competition come from North Carolina, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
Miss North Carolina, Cheslie Kryst, earned a law degree and an MBA from Wake Forest University before becoming a civil litigation lawyer, working on a voluntary basis to reduce the sentences imposed on inmates.
Miss Oklahoma Triana Browne says she's a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation, whose father is white and the mother is African-American. She is collaborating with Nike to promote a brand celebrating the Native American heritage.
Ms. New Mexico, Alejandra Gonzalez holds a Masters degree in Accounting and founded a nonprofit organization that teaches children the importance of knowing how to read and write.
One of them will soon be crowned winner in Reno, Nev., By Miss USA regent, Sarah Rose Summers, of Nebraska.

There are only five women out of the 51 Miss USA candidates who started the Thursday night competition in Reno, Nevada.
These are Miss Arkansas, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina and Oklahoma.
They have survived swimsuit and evening dress competitions to qualify for the penultimate round, where three finalists will be selected.
The winner will represent the United States in the Miss Universe contest.
Miss Nevada Tianna Tuamoheloa of Las Vegas is the first decent Samoan woman to participate in the event dating back to 1952.

Miss Nevada Tianna Tuamoheloa of Las Vegas was designated Thursday night at a casino hotel in Reno. She is the first decent Samoan woman to compete in the event dating back to 1952.
The narrowing of the field was based on their performance in a series of events earlier in the week.
The 15 qualifiers now qualify for the next round, where the number of candidates will be reduced to 10, then to five before the announcement of the three finalists.
