The Vanguard operation, the joint army-police task force created to combat illegal mining, arrested two Chinese nationals on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.

According to a report by ghananewssagency.org, two Ghanaians, Imoro Yankey and Kwadwo Apau, have also been apprehended for illegal logging in the Birim North district of the Eastern Region.
The two Chinese nationals were identified as Wan Zhi Dong and Shi Zhi Hai and were handed over to the Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, accompanied by two excavators.
The Ghanaian suspects, however, are under the custody of the Afosu Police Station while investigations continue.
According to a statement issued by Operation Vanguard, five Ghanaians suspected of illegal mining were also apprehended in the Prestea Huni Valley district, in the western region, and handed over to the Prestea District Police. for new investigations to be conducted.

He also revealed that six other Ghanaians had been arrested in Wbada Akropong District, Central Region, and had been handed over to the District Police for action.
In addition, four people were arrested in connection with fraudulent voter registration activities.
The suspects include leaders of the new Patriotic Party (NPP) and an official of the Electoral Commission (EC).
They have been charged with unlawful possession of EC's limited voter registration guarantors and other registration forms.
