Lauren Price is due to talk to promoter Eddie Hearn about the prospect of turning pro after winning Olympic gold on Sunday.
The 27-year-old – who has appeared 52 times for Wales in football, was a kickboxing world champion and also competed in taekwondo before switching to boxing – has yet to decide whether She was going to turn professional, having previously stated that she would like to defend her middleweight title at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. But in an interview on Wednesday after returning from Tokyo, Price revealed that the Matchroom promoter had been in touch.
“A lot of people have messaged me – obviously the big man too, Eddie Hearn,” she told BBC Radio Wales. “He asked me to chat with me. This opened up my options, but for now I’m just going to rest and enjoy the moment.
“When you win an Olympic medal, it changes your life. Beginner as a pro, if you have this type of experience you have reached the top of the hobbyist game… then the price, as you say, will be pretty good.
Price could follow the lead of Nicola Adams, who made history by winning gold in London 2012 and successfully defended her title four years later at the Rio Games. If she remains as an amateur, she would also be in line to compete for Wales at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

“I’m still young and Paris is only three years old so I could be a double Olympian,” she said. “I’m going to take a few weeks off and relax, then go from there. But I love what I do – I have a great education in Sheffield, training with world class coaches in a world class program.
“In women’s football it gets bigger and bigger all the time, so another three years it will be even bigger and [I can] go from there then.
