Some leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from Akatsi South constituency in the Volta region have called for the removal of Leo Nelson Adzidogah, the region’s chief municipal executive (MCE).
They accused the MCE of defending divisions and sidelining some current and former leaders as well as former party leaders.
The three constituency executives aggrieved in an eight-page petition to the party’s top hierarchy appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to nominate another person to fill the post of MCE.
The leaders calling for the removal of the MCE are Patrick Xormenyo Agboyibor, Deputy Constituency Secretary, Mr. Mensah Kadzaku, Constituency Youth Organizer, and Ms. Veronica Sakpaku, Constituency Women’s Organizer.
They argued, among other issues, the failure of the MCE, which was the 2020 NPP parliamentary candidate, to meet with all leaders to discuss ways to distribute resources and logistics during the election season.
They alleged that the diversion of party logistics from planned targets led the party to record weak constituency presidential results.
They also said the MCE had formed a strong cabal with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency by granting government contracts, protocols and scholarships to NDC members in defiance of their supporters.
“The MCE focuses only on fighting its enemies rather than promoting unity among the base of party supporters,” he added.
MCE Mr Adzidogah, contacted by the GNA, rejected allegations made against him by some of the leaders and said a full report would be available soon.
