Microsoft's new HoloLens 2 headset leaked just hours before the company announced it at a press event in Barcelona. Twitter user WalkingCat posted four photos of the HoloLens 2, which seem to be a promotional marketing support for the headset. The leaked photos show a smaller headset, with extra padding at the front of the camera and a rear dial to keep it in place.
One of the images also shows that a user of HoloLens 2 selects an object, suggesting that the headset might include additional support for gestures. Existing HoloLens headphones from Microsoft include vent and bloom gestures, but they do not allow clicking or interacting with holograms directly with the fingers.
Microsoft has already announced that it is going to announce its HoloLens 2 helmet. Alex Kipman, a technical collaborator at Microsoft and creator of HoloLens, has released a 42-second video teaser earlier this month. Microsoft also describes its press event today as "concerning new innovations for the future of computing." The helmet, dubbed Sydney, should include an improved field of vision and be more comfortable to wear thanks to a lighter frame.
Microsoft should also upgrade to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 ARM processor for HoloLens 2 and ship a custom variant of Windows on the future headset. We should find many more details at the company's press conference later today. The edge will cover the HoloLens 2 announcement by Microsoft at 9:00 am (12:00 pm) by the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona.
