Although LEGO includes a large number of different franchises for a wide range of licenses, the ever-growing world of cinema has always omitted a certain cinematic universe of superheroes.
The movie LEGO 2: The second part continues to present Batman and other DC Comics heroes. Despite the fact that they have a popular product line, Marvel's characters have not been shown on the big screen yet.
Although the reasons may be complex (and obvious), the new movie finally explained why all of these Marvel characters had not yet taken part in the adventures, despite the fact that the Spider-Man and Avenger sets were important offers of society in the last decade.
After General Mayhem of the Systar system invaded Apocalypsburg and kidnapped their heroes, Emmet and the survivors discussed the allies they could recruit to participate in a rescue mission. In this case, they mention Marvel but "they do not answer our calls".
It's a humorous exchange, but it also reflects the logistics behind the characters – the kind of meta-comment that fits The Lego movie universe.
The films are produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the parent company also owns DC Comics. That's why Batman and the Justice League play a leading role and why The LEGO Batman movie is his own leading franchise. Some LEGO Marvel animation movies are broadcast on Disney Channel, but they are part of a separate contract.
Disney is very protective vis-à-vis the Marvel IP after buying it years ago. So we should not be surprised that they do not want their characters to appear in another franchise. After all, the characters help drive the most profitable movie franchise into the box office, so it goes without saying that they would be selective for more appearances.
Unless of course Warner Bros. does not decide to spend more.
But LEGO movies are not exactly hurt because of the lack of Marvel heroes. This is just a humorous wink and a nod to their glaring absence, which makes this franchise so appealing to adults and children alike.
The movie LEGO 2: The second part now plays in theaters everywhere.
