A former deputy minister of local government and rural development under the Mahama administration, Aquinas Quansah, said Ghanaians could break tax laws due to the government’s lack of accountability.
He believes that citizens have no difficulty paying their taxes.
This problem, he noted, is that many Ghanaians are discouraged due to corruption and the misuse of public funds.
Speaking to Kwame Minka on XYZ TV, the former minister urged the government to put the taxes it collects to our benefit for all to see and benefit.
“When people feel and see the results of the taxes they pay in the country, there will be no hesitation in paying,” he noted.
President Nana Akufo Addo encouraged Ghanaians to pay their taxes for the development of the country.
He extended his crusade to the 2021 Ghana Bar Association conference in Bolgatanga, where he indicated that many of them were not honoring their tax obligations.
President Akufo-Addo observed that the average tax-to-GDP ratio in West Africa stood at 18%.
He urges lawyers to be good citizens and pay their taxes.
His appeal was supported by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General who also shamed some lawyers for leading a comfortable life but refusing to pay taxes.
