The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, gave the badurance of working closely with the government to fight against cancer in the country.

He stated that it was important that all interest groups come together to find an antidote for cancerous diseases.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu said this when Princess Dina Mired, President of the Union for the International Struggle Against Cancer (UICC), paid her a courtesy visit to Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Princess Mired of Jordan arrived in Kumasi yesterday morning accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

They were greeted at Kumasi Airport by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, Deputy Minister of Ashanti Region,

Ms. Elizabeth Agyeman and the General Manager of Kumasi Metropolitan, Mr. Osei-Assibey Antwi.
The Minister of Health, Mr. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare and the President of Breast Care International, a leading non-governmental organization, Dr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Wiafe-Addai.

Princess Mired of Jordan was in Kumasi to launch the Ghanaian version of World Cancer Day.

Curable cancer

Otumfuo Osei Tutu said that the cancer was curable and that early detection would reduce the growing number of cases in the country.
He has therefore called for intensification of education on cancer and its related conditions, adding that "the disease is killing us".

Asantehene further urged men with prostate cancer to not feel embarrbaded by the disease, but to let their doctor know early so that they can be helped with the treatment.


Recommendation

Otumfuo Osei Tutu congratulated Princess Mired, mother of a cancer survivor and world cancer advocate for her pragmatic efforts in the fight against the disease in the world.

He was pleased that UICC chose Kumasi as the fourth largest city in the world and the first in Africa to be part of the city's cancer project, C-Can 2025, at the 2017 World Leaders Summit in Mexico City .

He paid tribute to Dr. Wiafe-Addai for the remarkable work she was doing in the fight against bad cancer, especially among the poor in Ghana.

Princess Mired, for her part, said she was happy to be in Kumasi to launch the program.

She called on the government to devote more resources to cancer education and expressed its commitment to seeing both education and the reduction of cancer cases in the country.

She mentioned that her son had survived cancer because it was detected early.
