First Lady Ms. Rebecca Akufo-Addo
First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo called for increased awareness and improvement of cancer care in the country.
She called for collaboration between the government and private entities to improve cancer care by providing the necessary equipment and infrastructure.
She lamented the negative impact that cancer has on individuals, families and society because of the costly nature of treating the disease.
Ms. Akufo-Addo said this during the celebration of World Cancer Day in Kumasi on the theme: "I am and I will do it".
For her part, Jordan's Princess Dina Mired, who also serves as President of the Union for Cancer Control (UICC), also urged the government to give priority to improving cancer care in Ghana.
She called for the establishment of appropriate systems and mechanisms to fight cancer.
She added that without proper organization and partnership between the government and private entities, it will be difficult to fight the disease.
Princess Mired stated that she was the mother of a victim of the disease and that she had therefore decided to help improve her cancer care.
