The Executive Director of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Ms. May Obiri Yeboah, asked pedestrians and cyclists to use reflective or fluorescent clothing during the Easter celebration in front of motorists.
She added that the numbers indicated that the number of pedestrians and road accidents were significant during these celebrations and asked people who went to the evening program in church and at parties to dress in thinking about road safety.
The Executive Director gave this advice when she joined the Commission staff during Ho's Road Safety Campaign at the Central Market and at the bus stations.
She described the road safety situation in the country after Good Friday as "until here, everything is fine," claiming that no major road incidents had been recorded.
Obiri Yeboah praised the motorists for developing interest in road safety and urged all road users to ensure that this year's Easter holiday is not driven by accidents, without deaths to a car accident.
She reiterated the call for drivers and pbadengers to use the seatbelt and also asked motorcyclists to use a helmet and to comply with the highway code.
Obiri Yeboah said the Commission was sacrificing its Easter holidays to ensure safety on the roads and called on all stakeholders to lend their support.
Kwasi Tsibu Yirenkyi, Volta Regional Manager for the Commission, said the region had recorded 124 road accidents in the first three months of 2019, compared with 139 for the same period in 2018.
He said the 2019 cases involved 160 vehicles, 66 motorcycles, 36 pedestrian overturns, three of which were killed and 115 wounded.
The regional manager said that what was worrying, was the recording of motorcycle accidents every three days, with Akatsi, Sogakope, Dzodze, Agotime-Ziope, Ho and Hohoe as points of interest. flash.
