NEW ORLEANS – In this exclusive video, Kristien Boelaert, MD, PHD, from the University of Birmingham in the UK, discusses the results of a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial comparing the effects of levothyroxine on birth rates in women with anti-peroxidase antibodies. thyroid and normal thyroid function.
The trial was conducted among 952 women recruited from 49 centers in the United Kingdom. Participating women were randomly badigned to levothyroxine or placebo prior to conception.
According to the results, established on the basis of visits made 28 days after delivery, levothyroxine did not result in any significant differences between live birth rates, pregnancy rates and the outcome of pregnancy such as pregnancy termination or premature birth.
