5G technology and folding smartphones are in the mood of the day and LG did not want to be the laggard brand, taking the stage of the MWC to announce three smartphones, including its first device 5G, in the form of LG V50 ThinQ 5G. But LG has also unveiled the new LG G8 ThinQ and LG G8 ThinQ which bring some tricks in their sleeves.
On many points, the LG V50 ThinQ 5G is an evolution of the LG V40 ThinQ, which shows that LG has confidence in the formula of this device launched in October, so less than six months.
But the arrival of 5G technology imposes its will and the V40 was obviously the equipment of choice to adapt to the necessary extras, namely the Snapdragon 855 with X50 modem and a higher battery, with 4000mAh.
Otherwise, the V40 hardware stays in place and the V50 ThinQ 5G retains the 6.4-inch POLED display and QHD + resolution with an 8MP front-facing camera housed in a 5MP camera.
However, the main rooms also remain the same, with a trio consisting of a 12MP f / 1.5 unit, a 12MP f / 2.4 TV is an ultra wide angle 16MP f / 1.9.
One of the most interesting points of the LG V50 ThinQ 5G is that LG has actually revealed the secondary screen that the rumors already had, allowing to add a 6.2-inch FHD display to the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, which would increase the multitasking capacity of the terminal. . Not quite a collapsible smartphone, but it is at least as useful (or more) and costs a fraction of the price. However, it should be remembered that the LG V50 also includes stereo speakers, a Quad DAC controller, an audio jack and a military-grade construction.
LG G8 ThinQ
Because the LG V8 ThinQ 5G is LG's trademark for 5G technology, the LG G8 ThinQ had room to shine. In a way, LG seems unable to muster the same hype from other brands, but the G8 loses nothing in terms of features.
The device obviously includes a Snapdragon 855 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable memory, as well as a 6.1-inch OLED display with QHD + resolution. The screen has a notch where there is an 8MP camera and a ToF camera, called the Z camera, which really promises to be interesting. Thanks to its ability to measure distances in an infrared spectrum, the ToF camera can unlock the G8 by reading the veins in our hands or by mapping the faces in 3D.
But LG also unveiled Air Motion, thanks to which the smartphone can actually be controlled with gestures without touching the screen, thanks to the ToF camera. The user can perform gestures in the air to navigate and perform actions such as answer or reject a call, change the volume of a song, until that. It's innovation, right?
And do not forget that this OLED screen is the famous Crystal Sound by which the G8 emits sounds and vibrations. The device also includes a speaker with Boombox technology that uses the space to amplify the sound. The conjunction of Boombox with Crystal Sound should be extremely interesting. The device also leaves us the pleasure of including a Quad DAC and an audio jack, a particularly appreciated point of the LG G7.
In terms of photography, the LG G8 ThinQ is comprised of three 12MP f / 1.5, 12MP tele and 16MP UGA cameras. The biggest surprise of this trio is the ability to apply portrait mode to video, which creates a bokeh effect, not just photography. If that happens, it will be perfect.
The battery is a 3500mAh unit.
However, the LG G8 ThinQ has a slightly larger screen with 6.2 inches and a 3550mAh battery. The trio of cameras retains the two 12MP cameras, but goes from 16MP to 13MP.
In total, the LG G8 ThinQ is one of the most comprehensive smartphones ever revealed in the MWC. Keeping the audio jack and the overall wager on higher audio quality, and adding something as fantastic as the Z camera means that these devices have everything to differentiate themselves from the competition.
