The Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM) national leadership on behalf of its members has declared its support for the anti-LGBTQI + bill currently before Parliament.

The Mission “believes that any attempt to overtly promote LGBTQI in Ghanaian society would be rejected in its entirety by the right people in Ghana.”

In a statement signed by Dr Sheikh Amen Bonsu, national president of the GMM, and delivered to the Ghanaian news agency on Friday in Accra, he said that “the GMM would like to add its voice and call on members of parliament to support the adoption of the anti LGBTQI bill to stop the advocacy and promotion of LGBTQI by any individual or group of people.

“We urge the parliament of Ghana not to give in to any pressure to defend, promote and support any LGBTQI agenda, whether at the local or international level. ”

The statement said that LGBTQI people do not conform to the socio-cultural and religious norms of the country and tend to derail the moral fabric of society and that this would have negative effects on the population, thus affecting the human resources necessary for the development of the country. . .

“It also has dire consequences for our health system as it can lead to the spread of sexually transmitted infections among other chronic diseases. Ultimately, this will jeopardize the country’s economic gains. ”

The statement noted that Islam abhors LGBTQI and in fact describes it as “haram” (prohibited) or unauthorized and makes it a culpable act, and “we are also aware that Christianity and mainstream religion neither accept nor also support LGBTQI ”.

“Allah says in Quran 7: 80-81” And remember when Lot rebuked the men of his people saying: Do you do a shameful act that no man has ever done before? You covet men instead of women! You are certainly transgressors.

He said the GMM, however, recognized that people with different sexual orientations are human beings and need the love, care and medical attention they need.

“We are therefore against any act of violence against such people. We must protect future generations of this country from such abominable conduct. ”
