Liam Neeson was released Tuesday night in New York to attend the premiere of his thriller on Lionsgate, "Cold Pursuit".
However, the red carpet of the projection was canceled just hours before the start of the arrivals following Neeson's racist remarks he had recently made in an interview with The Independent. Neeson revealed that he once hoped to be able to kill a "black bastard" after the brutal rape of a friend more than 40 years ago.
Earlier in the day, Neeson appeared in "Good Morning America", insisting that his words had been taken out of context. "I'm not a racist," he told Robin Roberts of "GMA".
A source tells Variety that the red carpet of "Cold Pursuit" was nixed because Neeson had the impression to say that he had said all he needed and wanted to say about the independent interview .
The screening at AMC Loews Lincoln Square began without ceremony, with no words of welcome from the studio directors or the creative team of the film.
While the credits were spinning, guests left the theater before being abruptly stopped by Neeson's presence in the lobby. Holding a cup of coffee while donning a baseball cap and button shirt, the actor was happy to take pictures with a few participants before quickly leaving the building.
Neeson was one of the first to arrive at the party after the party at Skylark. Standing at the entrance, he greeted the guests with a warm smile before joining the cast members, including Tom Bateman ("Snatched" and "Vanity Fair") and Tom Jackson ("North of 60"). Neeson left around midnight.
