Lincoln ranked # 1 for influenza activity according to the Walgreens Influenza Index

LINCOLN. Nb. – According to the recent Walgreens influenza index, Lincoln is one of the country's main influenza activity areas.

The influenza index indicates populations where the incidence of influenza is highest using the retail prescription data of antivirals used to treat influenza.

The index ranks the Lincoln & Hastings-Kearney area at the forefront of the markets and Omaha ranked fourth.

In addition, the latest influenza data from the Nebraska Department of Health and Social Services indicates that 31 people have died of influenza-related illnesses during the influenza season.

The data, which are up to date until January 19, indicate that out of the 31 deaths, two were child deaths. The average age of people who die of influenza is 73 years old. Data includes returns from September 30, 2018 to January 25.
