Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist, Lindsey Buckingham, had an open heart emergency last week and is currently recovering at her home. "Every day he is stronger than the last," wrote his wife Kristen Buckingham in a statement. "While he and his heart are doing well, the operation resulted in vocal cord damage. Although it is not clear if the damage is permanent, we hope it is not.
Buckingham was forced to leave Fleetwood Mac last year when Stevie Nicks made it clear to the rest of the group that she could not work with him anymore. "After 43 years and the finish line so clearly in view, it's hard to escape the conclusion that it would be wrong for us five to split the piece," Buckingham wrote in an email addressed to the co-founder of the group, Mick Fleetwood after learning the news. "At the moment, the heart of the group has been diminished, but the center, which has crossed us so much, is only dormant."
The call failed and the group was replaced by Neil Finn of Crowded House and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and Heartbreakers. Buckingham sued the group for the dismissal, though they settled out of court. The guitarist spent the last few months playing solo to promote his new set of three discs. "This year has been very stressful and difficult for our family," wrote Kristen Buckingham. "Still, our gratitude for life overcomes all the obstacles we face right now. We feel so lucky that he is alive. Like him. He can not wait to recover and leave behind him. Needless to say, all the tours and shows currently scheduled have been paused for the moment while it brings the strength to heal completely. "
