Missing girls
The Western region and Sekondi-Takoradi have been particularly shaken by reports of kidnappings in recent months.
Between August 2018 and January 2019, about five kidnappings involving about five young women were reported.
The Daily Guide is now reporting that some people in Metropolitan Sekondi-Takoradi are now protesting the insecurity they feel.
Recently, a suspect, Nigerian Sam Udoetuk Wills, was arrested again after escaping from custody.
However, none of the people he allegedly kidnapped would have been found.
YEN.com.gh brings you, in the light of the insecurity that people face, a chronological memory of the kidnappings that shook Sekondi-Takoradi.
1. August 15, 2018
The first incident occurred on Wednesday, August 15, when a 16-year-old high school student was abducted a hundred meters from her home in New Site, Takoradi.
The girl who was abandoned the next day near her home was made dumb, perhaps traumatized by her ordeal.
2. August 17, 2018
A 21-year-old woman was also kidnapped at the junction of Nkroful, also in the metropolis of Sekondi-Takoradi.
His father said that his daughter had called him that day, August 17, 2018, looking very agitated and shouting "daddy" repeatedly, after which the line was interrupted and the phone was hung up.
The kidnappers then contacted a ransom request. YEN.com.gh has no news of its current situation.
3. November 14, 2018
The attempted kidnapping this time was foiled. Florence Ekua Egyir, a teacher at the Donewell Methodist Academy in Effiekuma, recounted Paa Kwesi Simpson's incident on the "Omanbapa" show on the Connect FM show.
Egyir said they were going to school with their 11-year-old sister on Wednesday, Nov. 14, when the unidentified woman hatched their kidnapping attempt, albeit unsuccessfully.
4. December 4, 2018
A group of unidentified men who posed as workers of the mobile telecommunications giant, MTN Ghana, abducted an 18-year-old woman in Takoradi.
The men allegedly advertised an alleged job offer at MTN Ghana in a WhatsApp group and encouraged people interested in calling a contact listed in the ad to apply for this job.
5. December 21, 2018
Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, a 15-year-old girl, would be one of the people to have been abducted in Sekondi-Takoradi.
The victim, a freshman at Sekondi College in the Western Region, reportedly disappeared on December 21. She was not found and her parents launched a search.
