Jurgen Klopp once again placed the Premier League in the line of fire by reiterating his criticisms of the match schedule.
The Reds start their campaign Sunday with the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley, before starting their high-flying home campaign against Norwich City five days later.
Liverpool will not have Sadio Mane this weekend. The winger will be back for training Monday after attending the African Cup of Nations finals on July 19th.
Alison Becker, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah were eliminated until the beginning of the week due to international commitments.
In comparison, the Spanish and German leagues start on the weekend of August 17, while the Italian Serie A begins the following week.
And Klopp thinks the upscale English should benefit from longer summer holidays.
"Someone must start this discussion," said the boss of the Reds. "I spoke to Carlo Ancelotti (the patron of Naples). Italy also has 20 teams and starts the season on August 24th.
"(Kalidou) Koulibaly, who played with Sadio at the Africa Cup of Nations, has four weeks of vacation. He's not even coming back.
"They also have 20 teams. I do not know why we start so early. Next year we have the European Championships and the Copa America and we start the same week as this one in England. I do not know why.
"The Premier League is such a wonderful product that everyone will watch it anyway. We do not need those weeks when no one in the world is playing, apart from the Premier League. It does not mean anything.
"I like football, but players have to be taken into account, but no one is. From time to time, I start a discussion and people say he's looking for excuses. I am not, but we have to think about these things, especially in England. "
Klopp admits that Liverpool could benefit Salah in the short term, while Firmino and Mane stay in shape after such a brief break, though it is difficult to prevent burnout.
"Yeah, that's the only good thing and Sadio had 16 days," he said. "So they do not lose a lot, not like a seven-week break, it's different. Three weeks, 16 days, it should be fine.
