If transfer rumors are to be believed – and it’s still a risky concept at the best of times – then Liverpool are looking to revitalize their squad with some exciting young talent.
Many of the club’s key players are not yet on the hill, but there are many who will be in their 30s in just over a year, if they aren’t already. Michael Edwards and his transfer team will no doubt be preparing for life without many of them.
The succession plan has started well with the signing of Diogo Jota, who has scored 10 goals this season despite missing three months in the campaign.
Ozan Kabak could definitely join this summer, Curtis Jones has seen a lot of action in 2020/21 and Harvey Elliott could be part of Liverpool’s first team next season. The future of the team looks healthy.
And there have been discussions this week that Reds are interested in signing Salzburg hotshot Patson Daka. As he has scored 54 goals in the past two years, the 22-year-old will be in high demand.
Someone other than Liverpool would be watching is Wilfried Singo. TuttoSport (Going through The start room) even reported that his club Torino had already rejected a £ 17million offer from Liverpool.
While it seems unlikely that the Reds’ interest has yet spread to putting their money on the table, the Ivorian – who has yet to represent his country at senior level – is certainly an exciting talent.
It is not yet entirely clear whether he is a right-back or a right-winger, in part thanks to the formations employed by the Turin managers this season.
Marco Giampaolo was replaced by Davide Nicola in January, but the tactical framework has largely remained the same with both men deploying their squad in a 3-5-2 formation.
Singo did not tend to start when Giampolo used a 4-4-2 early in the campaign and played the role of winger in the mid-five since the tactical change in November.
Statsbomb data on FBRef lists Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey as the player he most resembles. Watching clips of Singo’s two Serie A goals is a connection that makes a lot of sense.
First and foremost, it’s fast. Really fast. Against the Roma last July, he picked up Pau Lopez’s goal kick near the halfway line, passed Bruno Peres and loaded all the way into the box. Lopez really should have saved his shot, but it was a brilliant run and his effort was at least on target.
The movement was a perfect example of perhaps his greatest strength too, which is running with the ball and pushing it up the pitch.
In 2020/21, only five Serie A players averaged more dribble attempts per 90 minutes than Singo (among those who played for at least 1,400 minutes), and only three finished more (for FBRef).

He’s also just outside the top 20 players in Italy for progressive carry distance, moving the ball a combined 155 yards toward the opposing goal every 90 minutes.
Singo’s goal against Parma in January it was even more Lamptey-esque. He was about 15 yards inside half of Turin when he played a pass to Andrea Belotti in the center circle. From there, he sprinted forward and between left-back and center-back to receive a ball back, before piercing the ball into the left corner of the goal.
From Liverpool’s perspective, the only downside right now would be that there isn’t an obvious place for him alongside them.
However, his potential to play as a full-back or as an attacking winger could give Jurgen Klopp an unexpected solution in two areas.
Singo could replace Trent Alexander-Arnold if needed, a player who rarely gets a chance to rest and is known for his attacking prowess, or provide extra depth in the front line.
Make no mistake about it, Wilfried Singo is unquestionably an exciting young player who is destined for bigger and better things in the very near future.
