Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol said the Reds should sell the Champions League hero, Divock Origi, because he "does not make the team better".

Origi had only been appearing for Liverpool last season, but had made incredibly important contributions.

Against Everton, the Belgian scored a decisive goal in the derby of Merseyside and managed a bag for the spectacular return of the Champions League Liverpool against Barcelona.

Origi was also in goal in the European final, placing the Reds second place against Tottenham to ensure the trophy returns to Liverpool.

The striker is currently in the good books of all the Reds fans on the planet, but Nicol believes he should be transferred.

Liverpool defender Steve Nicol says Reds should sell Divock Origi

Speaking on ESPN, Nicol said: "For the sake of Liverpool, they should get rid of him, let him go, it depends on the severity with which you want to say it.

"He has to go for his good, but for the sake of Liverpool, they have put themselves in a place where they now have to ask themselves," How are we going to the next step? "

"And for me, taking the next step is to make the band better and bigger, I do not think the Divock Origi makes our band any better.

"Whenever he's played, whenever he's started, usually so that Firmino gives him a break, the level has dropped too much in my opinion. That's why, ultimately, they have to get rid of him.

Origi helped Liverpool win a sixth European Cup with a goal in Madrid

"Now, we will remember him forever and one day, not just for the goal of the Champions League in the final, but obviously for the one against Barcelona and against Everton.

"We will remember him, but unfortunately, as a player, he's just not good enough to play at the level that Liverpool has to be every time he gets on the pitch."
