Liverpool had a welcome boost – and maybe some of the stars of the future could even force themselves into club plans late in the season.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joe Gomez played in a game against U-23 with Leicester on Sunday.
Teen striker Rhian Brewster also qualified for the win as he won 6-0 at King Power Stadium.
None of the players who spent time on the treatment table suffered any reaction.
It was a good day for Liverpool, who regained the top spot in the Premier League.
Oxlade-Chamberlain impressed in his last match but manager Jurgen Klopp will not return the midfielder to £ 35m before he is ready.
"It's been a long time," said Klopp on Friday, "He played 40 minutes against Derby, then 60 minutes in an internal game, he needs more minutes to play.
"It's difficult because everyone else is in good shape, how do I compare?" It sounds good in practice, like Joe (Gomez), but we need to make sure they're really ready.
"These were serious injuries, we want to have them for the future, not for one game, which is why we try to be as serious as possible."
After the 2-0 win over Chelsea, the manager responded to club criticism.
Klopp said: "The biggest challenge for us is always to deal with the outside world, you and others.
"We do not think like that, we play our game.
"If City loses today, and we find out five minutes before the match, someone tells us" City lost! "But this is not a help, in which case you lose your focus.
"We are only trying to collect as many points as possible, what is it now?" 85 "Four games to play 97. Let's try.
"And if that's enough, then perfect, otherwise we can not change it, and we have not lost it here or there or anything.
"Very intelligent people will come and say," If you won against Leicester, you would be a champion "
"People and idiots bring something like that."
