Liverpool is still David Alaba’s race; the allegations are otherwise premature

Liverpool are still in the race for David Alaba, according to a report. This suggests that the preceding claims elsewhere were premature.

This is from the Daily Mail. They say Real Madrid have yet to win the race for David Alaba. Los Blancos remain favorites, however.

But Liverpool “remain in contention” for the Austrian, who will leave Bayern Munich at the end of his contract this year.

Alaba’s father confirmed nothing was settled in an interview with BILD.

So it adds up. Liverpool may still have a chance to sign David Alaba who is still ‘deliberating’ on his decision.

What RTK has to say

It’s hard to know what to think here. At first glance, we would absolutely love Alaba in Liverpool. He’s a fantastic player with Thiago level experience – you can’t have too much.

At the same time, the Guardian – which claimed this deal had been made – said salaries with Real would be around £ 204,000 a wee after tax. We’re not sure Liverpool can afford it.

We’re not even sure they would like to. It is a huge sum to pay to Alaba.

He’s great, sure, but is he going to be so decisive that you should pay him that? Maybe if you are real and lack a cohesive team. But not if you are Liverpool.

So while we would love to see Alaba at Anfield, we want this to only happen at a decent price. The quality of the 28-year-old could lead to huge salaries, but what he would bring to Liverpool does not.

It really is that easy.

But Liverpool are expected to fight this one until the end as it’s not often that a player like Alaba is available for free. So make your best offer, sure, but if Real is willing to go to £ 204,000 a week after tax, then leave it.

However, it is not necessary to equal this.
