Van Dijk's Liverpool beat Porto comfortably in the last 16 of the Champions League last season, winning the 5-0 win in Portugal.
The draw of the Champions League allowed the Reds to avoid all three Premier League teams, as well as Barcelona and Juventus.
Van Dijk insists that Liverpool will not have the easy task despite the suggestions heard.
The Dutchman told the Mirror: "Liverpool's experience in last year's Champions League final will be useful, but that does not guarantee anything of the season.
"People say that Porto is the easiest draw of all time – but it's a very tough team to face, they do not participate in the quarterfinals for no reason, and we have to be ready for them."
The badessment of Van Dijk is the right approach, but he must believe it.
It's one thing to express his comments, but he and the rest of the team must believe that they will fight, and not just greet Porto media.
Complacency is Liverpool's biggest threat. Porto beat Rome in the last round, which reached the semi-finals last season. The Reds can not afford to underestimate them.
