The National Democratic Congress (NDC) after a series of consultations proposed electoral reforms.
The NDC noted that the reforms are aimed at restoring the credibility and integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.
Among other things, the opposition party is proposing that the chairmen of the Election Commission (EC) be appointed after parliament has approved their appointments.
In addition, he suggests that the list of all polling stations to be used for an election with their names, code numbers and locations be published in the Gazette and as supplements in state newspapers no later than 30 days.
However, after delivering the document to the headquarters of the Electoral Commission in Accra, the EC ordered the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to table its electoral reform proposals before the All-Party Consultative Committee (IPAC) for dialogue.
The Commission said it was open to suggestions and comments to improve the country’s electoral process, but insisted that IPAC is the appropriate forum for such suggestions.
Several key NDC people called the EC’s actions disrespectful.
