PanARMENIAN.Net – Living somewhere with a view of a park or garden could reduce your desire to Chocolate, cigarettes or alcohol, a study found, according to the Online Mail.

The researchers say that being surrounded by green spaces brings fewer negative feelings and therefore a lesser tendency to look for unhealthy treats.

It has been shown that exposure to nature, even in small amounts, improves overall wellbeing.

And the researchers said it could help understand the causes of cravings and thus improve the understanding of diseases caused by excess, such as obesity and diabetes.

The study, led by the University of Plymouth, asked 149 participants to complete an online poll about their place of residence and their guilty pleasures.

Participants selected items for which they regularly had cravings – most people mentioned food (38%) or chocolate (32%).

Addictive items were also an often reported choice, with caffeine top of the list of 16% of consumer lists, nicotine 5% and alcohol 9%.

Among other things, the study measured the proportion of green space in each participant's neighborhood, the amount of greenery they could see from their home, their access to a garden or subdivision, and the frequency with which they went to a public green space like a park.
