Lobby leaders to dissolve self-defense groups – MP

Mr. Alhbadan Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North, urged members of the public to pressure the NDC and NPP leaders to dissolve the principle of vigilance.

As citizens, putting pressure on the leaders of both parties to do the right thing, was part of their civic responsibility and participation, and they should not be afraid to do it.

Suhuyini said this during a public seminar organized in Accra by Cross-Fire Ghana in the conference room of the African University College of Communication, on the theme "Political vigilance and democratic governance in the fourth republic of Ghana".

The MP does not agree with the decision of President Akufo Addo to adopt a law criminalizing party vigilance, as well as the proposed meeting between the NDC and the NPP on this issue.

According to him, there were enough laws in the country that dealt with such illegal groups and their activities and no law was needed to dissolve them.

Mr Suhuyini urged young people to cultivate the habit of seeking problems of national importance to enable them to challenge the system when things do not unfold as promised by the politician.

Nana Osei Tutu, the head of Crossfire Ghana, a pressure group, urged the various political leaders to show more determination in the dissolution of the vigilance system.

He revealed that the pressure group would continue to engage students from different levels of education in the fight against activism before the general election of 2020.
