(KPTV) – National and local health authorities are testing Oregon's ability to cope with a possible bioterrorist attack.
On Tuesday, an exercise called "Operation Ox" or Oregon Exercise examined what would happen if a person unleashed the plague and made many people sick.
The exercise was led by the Oregon Health Authority, but involved more than a thousand agencies in the state.
Health professionals have worked to rapidly introduce antibiotics into communities, which means moving boxes and boxes of counterfeit medicines.
"The idea is not about the scenario, but we know that plague is a treatable disease and we know that antibiotics can really help to save and stop the spread of the plague. We are therefore considering more processes and obtaining antibiotics from our stock of strategic national stocks and pbading them on as quickly and efficiently as possible to the community, "said Akiko Saito, Incident Manager.
The exercise runs until Thursday.
