London Marathon swaps plastic bottles for Ooho food drink capsules

[ad_1]

More than 30,000 capsules of edible beverages were distributed to runners at the London Marathon yesterday, with the aim of reducing plastic waste.

The marathon was the largest ever trial of Ooho capsules – biodegradable capsules that can be filled with water or other beverages.

You can either eat the whole pods or bite in to release the liquid. Made from a seaweed-based substance, the discarded packaging will break down naturally in four to six weeks, roughly the same time as a fruit.

Ooho pods are manufactured by Skipping Rocks Lab, a London-based start-up led by Royal College graduates Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez and Pierre Paslier.
