The Metropolitan Police think that the victim's car was followed for some time by a white Ford Focus, before the attack.
At the Amhurst Park Road junction with Rav Pinter Close, the Ford sits in the victim's car and four or five gunmen were out.
They then broke the windows of the victim's car before returning to the Ford Focus and escaping, Scotland Yard said. We do not know in which direction they went.
Three pbadengers who were also inside the vehicle at the time of the attack were not injured.
This comes a day after a 40-year-old driver was stabbed to death in his vehicle near the Clapham Common subway station in what the police described as a targeted attack.
Detective Constable James Readman said, "I would like to hear from anyone who was around at the time of the attack or may have information about this incident."
"Although the suspect did not directly hurt the driver, it is thought that he was taken ill shortly after the vehicle's attack.
"He is currently hospitalized in a situation where his life is in danger and my officers are using to identify the group of men responsible.
"It appears to be a scheduled attack and an investigation has been opened to establish all the circumstances in which this incident occurred."
