Paris took second place, Rome third and Crete fourth while Bali is fifth, making it the top rated destination outside of Europe.
Phuket, Barcelona, Istanbul, Marrakech and Dubai complete the top 10.
Sydney, entered at number 24, was the only Australasian destination to appear.

Paris has become the second most-rated destination in the world, while the Musée d'Orsay is ranked at the top of the category of the best museums.
New Zealand has failed to rank in the category of the highest rated beaches, with Baia do Sancho in Brazil, Varadero Beach in Cuba and Eagle Beach in Aruba. The only Australian beaches to feature are Manly Beaches in Sydney (18) and Surfers Paradise Beach (24).
Aotearoa has also been remarkably absent from the categories of monuments, attractions and top rated museums, with Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the Universal Adventure Islands in Florida and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, respectively.
The Rotorua Māori Hangi Dinner and Performance is ranked seventh on the list of top rated experiences, while the Auckland The Grove restaurant ranks ninth in the category of top rated restaurants.
The awards, based on millions of reviews and opinions from last year, also included the top rated destinations for different regions and countries.
Sydney dominated the South Pacific category, followed by the Gold Coast, Auckland, Melbourne and Queenstown.

Sydney was the only destination in Australasia to be on the list of top rated destinations.
In New Zealand, Auckland has become the top rated destination, followed by Queenstown, Rotorua, Christchurch and Wellington.
Marahau, gateway to southern Abel Tasman National Park, was fifth on the New Zealand list, Dunedin's seventh, Nelson's eighth, Wanaka's ninth and Napier's tenth.
Air New Zealand, on the other hand, came in second on the list of top rated airlines, behind Singapore Airlines and ahead of Emirates.
Mr. Coleman advised people planning to travel to the top 25 destinations worldwide to plan their trips outside the peak season, when prices would likely be lower and crowds smaller.
New York hotels, which went from top 10 to number 13, are about 30% cheaper in March than in September, TripAdvisor said. In March, hotels in Rome are around 19% cheaper than in September.
"It's also worth exploring beyond the well-known attractions of a destination – travelers often discover a more authentic and memorable experience away from major tourist areas," the site says.
